[en] Following the Mazdean tradition, Western scholars
looked for Zarathushtra’s biography in the older
Avesta, especially in the Gāthās. It is rather the
younger Avesta which interprets the Gāthās in
order to build the figure of the Mazdean prophet,
archetype of the sacrificer.
