Abstract :
[en] A great deal of interest in off-site construction has been remarkable over the last decade. However, building on the rooftops of existing building has not been given a significant importance as a subject of research, despite its dependence on off-site construction and prefabrication. Thus, this paper develops a novel conceptual framework to support a multidisciplinary decision making for selecting off-site prefabricated constructional system for roof stacking. The multidisciplinary approach includes each of safety, logistics, cost, time, environmental impact, and quality of construction as major criteria in the decision making process. This paper is the outcome of an exhaustive investigation of more than 136 roof stacking projects built during the last 20 years. The development of framework is supported by a feedback validation loop based on semi-structured interviews with experts in the field of roof stacking and off-site construction.
