[en] The main rule in trade law is the freedom of trade. However, some limitations should be introduced for protecting non-economic interests, such as security. One of the ways for ensuring these interests is represented by national strategic trade control systems. In case of violation of these rules, sanctions should be provided. The contribution aims at analysing the existing sanctions in trade law area, distinguishing between "internal penalties", meant as the violation of export control regimes, and "external sanctions", referred to the violation of embargoes. The analysis is a comparative one, and focuses particularly on the EU level.
