pericardial effusion; cardiac tumours; echocardiography; right heart failure
Résumé :
[en] Pericardial effusion mainly affects middle-aged and large-breed dogs. The clinical signs are more or less those of right heart failure, which aids diagnosis. This is confirmed by echocardiography. Several tests are used to assess the impact on cardiac function and clarify the aetiology, including radiography, echocardiography, histopathology, measurement of cardiac troponin I and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. The most common causes of pericardial effusion are haemangiosarcoma and idiopathic pericardial effusion, followed by mesothelioma. The prognosis is strongly influenced by the aetiology and treatment option chosen.
