[en] This chapter first briefly reviews the state of knowledge of global (inner) estuarine CO2 flux and the existing problems. Then, we describe the distribution features of CO2 parameters in and around large river plumes over continental shelves to discuss factors that control CO2 distribution in areas dominated by river plumes. We also attempt to estimate air-sea CO2 flux in river plumes globally and provide a general view on whether inclusion of river plume in the estuarine CO2 flux assessments would change the currently best known global estuarine CO2 flux values.
