[en] This article focuses on only two of Hodgins' novels, The Invention of the World and The Resurrection of Joseph Bourne. It highlights the unobtrusive use of fairy tale conventions combined with a pervasive sympathy for the novels' characters. This yields the literary alchemy through which reaaders experience both a keen sense of reality and the marvellous opening of fantasy.
