Abstract :
[en] The “Chroniques de Louis XII” are a major source for early sixteenth-century political history, recording events and creating an original vision of a King who personified the superior moral qualities of his kingdom. The “Chronicles” support an imperialist discourse, justifying Louis XII’s Italian successes and pretensions, and predicting further victories as a consequence of his moral perfection. In fact, the “Chroniques de Louis XII” present an original portrait of France and the French court at the dawn of the Renaissance, when the kingdom was looking to redefine itself between a mythic past, a glorious present and a future full of promises.
