[en] Using a new evaluation of satellite data, and simula-
tions carried out with a regional climate model, it has
been shown that the acceleration of surface melting of
the Greenland ice sheet during the 1979-2005 period
was twice as rapid as earlier studies had estimated.
Between 1979 and 2005, the area of Greenland
affected by melt at least one day per year in fact
increased by 42%, and the average summer tempera-

l’accélération de la fonte superficielle de la calotte gla-
ciaire du Groenland au cours de la période 1979 - 2005
était deux fois plus importante que ne l’estimaient les
études antérieures. Entre 1979 et 2005, la surface du
Groenland touchée par la fonte au moins un jour par an
s’est en réalité accrue de 42 %, tandis que la tempéra-
ture moyenne d’été augmentait de 2,4°C.
