[en] An increasing number of studies focus on the impact of firm location on firm productivity. Here, location refers to localised resources or externalities available to firms. These studies have become possible due to advancements in data availability at firm level and productivity estimation methods. There is a growing need to better identify the effects of localized externalities, “the firm-region nexus”, on firms that are the primary targets of many regional development policies. However, relying solely on administrative regions risks committing the ecological fallacy: attributing to all firms in a region the effects observed for a region as a whole. This article presents the state of the art as of 2025, highlighting key issues in this area of research. A total of 166 articles were selected, mainly published in the past decade. From a methodological perspective, there is no real consensus on the models utilised, whether to estimate productivity or to investigate the relationships between ”firm-region nexus” and firm productivity. Spatial integration is still not adequately taken into account: (a) Total Factor Productivity estimations do not account for spatial dependence among methodological concerns; (b) 70% of the articles do not discuss methodological issues linked to the use of firm locations. A deeper grasp of firm location, particularly the “head office bias”, emerges as critical to improving the robustness of analyses. Quantifying “firm-region nexus” remains heterogeneous according to national or local contexts (diverging points of interest, data availability…). Comparing the effects of various types of externalities across countries appears quite ambitious. Some articles focus on the effect of one category of localised externalities: the aim is to find not only a relation but the type of relation: spatial or temporal effect, linear or non-linear relations, threshold effects. [fr] De plus en plus d'études se concentrent sur l'impact de la localisation des entreprises sur leur productivité. Ici, la localisation fait référence aux ressources localisées ou aux externalités dont disposent les entreprises. Ces études ont été rendues possibles grâce aux progrès réalisés en matière de disponibilité des données au niveau des entreprises et des méthodes d'estimation de la productivité. Il est de plus en plus nécessaire de mieux identifier les effets des externalités localisées, le nexus "région - entreprise", sur les entreprises qui sont les principales cibles de nombreuses politiques de développement régional. Cependant, se fier uniquement aux régions administratives risque de conduire à une erreur écologique : attribuer à toutes les entreprises d'une région les effets observés pour l'ensemble de la région. Cet article présente l'état de l'art en 2025, en soulignant les questions clés dans ce domaine de recherche. Au total, 166 articles ont été sélectionnés, principalement publiés au cours de la dernière décennie. D'un point de vue méthodologique, il n'existe pas de véritable consensus sur les modèles utilisés, que ce soit pour estimer la productivité ou pour étudier les relations entre le « nexus entreprise-région » et la productivité des entreprises. L'intégration spatiale n'est toujours pas suffisamment prise en compte : (a) les estimations de la productivité totale des facteurs ne tiennent pas compte de la dépendance spatiale parmi les préoccupations méthodologiques ; (b) 70 % des articles ne traitent pas des questions méthodologiques liées à l'utilisation des implantations des entreprises. Une meilleure compréhension de l'implantation des entreprises, en particulier du « biais du siège social », apparaît comme essentielle pour améliorer la robustesse des analyses. La quantification du « lien entre l'entreprise et la région » reste hétérogène selon les contextes nationaux ou locaux (points d'intérêt divergents, disponibilité des données, etc.). Comparer les effets de différents types d'externalités entre les pays semble assez ambitieux. Certains articles se concentrent sur l'effet d'une catégorie d'externalités localisées : l'objectif est de trouver non seulement une relation, mais aussi le type de relation : effet spatial ou temporel, relations linéaires ou non linéaires, effets de seuil.
