Abstract :
[en] In this chapter, all aspects of electroencephalography (EEG) clinical applications in anesthesia and neurocritical care are reviewed. A large panel of EEG-based monitors is described, with emphasis on their basic principles, indications and contra-indications in clinical practice, and effects of anesthetic agents. Aside from a description of each type of equipment, cues for adequate reading and interpretation of the information provided by those monitors are given, as well as their main advantages and disadvantages. The chapter finishes with a few words on the current opinion of the authors on the clinical utility of all those monitors, and with a few suggested readings in the domain of EEG applied to anesthesia and critical care.
