Abstract :
[en] At the beginning of the First Millennium bce, the Third Intermediate Period saw major changes in burial practices in the Theban area. From the end of the New Kingdom onwards, decorated tombs were abandoned and burial furniture restricted to a few items displaying an innovative iconographic and textual program. Dating from the early 21st Dynasty, the burial sets of Serimen and Sutymes experimented a new iconographic and textual repertoire, taking its inspiration from the world of the temple, of which they offer a microcosm within the tomb. Contrasting both with previous traditions and with the furniture of their successors, the originality of these ensembles highlights their prestige and virtuosity in conceiving new references.
