[en] Since the discovery of UV aurora on Mars by SPICAM, our understanding of Martian auroral phenomena has significantly advanced, thanks to observations from MAVEN/IUVS and EMM/EMUS. The observations made by IUVS have shown that auroral activity on Mars is both frequent and diverse, occurring in localized forms (discrete) as well as on a global scale (SEP aurora). Each type of Martian aurora serves as a tracer of distinct physical processes driven by solar interactions with Mars’ magnetic and charged particle environment. In this presentation, we will explore the morphology of different auroral types observed in MAVEN/IUVS and EMM/MUS, and discuss how spectral characterization can help distinguish them. We will also highlight the relevance of these insights for the proposed Mars Aurora Camera (M-AC).
