Abstract :
[en] This presentation offers an overview about what is transference.
Transference is a pillar of psychoanalytic theory and technique. It appears early in Freud’s work. But transference is not specific to psychoanalytic situation. At the crossing of the intrapsychic and the intersubjective, conceptualization of transference has evolved from the beginning.
The first part of the talk will focus on historical review of the concept of transference.
The second part explores how developmental and neuroscientific findings shed light on transference processes.
The third part concerns technical questions about management of transference, which differ depending on psychoanalytical theoretical streams. Has transference to be interpreted? Which transference ? Interpretation of transference, or of transferences? Interpretation of content, or of psychic functioning? When, and how? What happens if transference is not interpreted?
