Ré-animer l’histoire du cinéma (quand l’animatographe explore le cinématographe)

The manifestly artificial nature of film animation, the constant reinvention of the apparatus and its claims to alterity, all shape its own particular (and problematic) identity; most of all, however, these elements of animation interrogate cinema itself on historical and aesthetic levels. The study that reflects upon certain emblematic films demonstrates how the enterprise of film animation invites cinema to take stock of itself, to look back upon its history and to consider the possibilities of new developments in perspective and previously unexplored mobile arrangements in its time and space.
