Abstract :
[en] The concept of ‘Nature-based Solutions’ (NbS) has been promoted in recent years in international arenas in relation to climate change and biodiversity conservation policy agendas. It is a controversial concept: its detractors, both in the South and in the North, denounce the exacerbation of the logic of appropriation and commodification of nature that it entails. In this article, we propose to rethink the concept of NbS from two post-development strands that have, over the past decades, influenced and redefined Latin American critical thinking: Buen Vivir and Solidarity Economy. We argue that these provide a contribution to the debate by problematising the ontological and epistemological diversity that lies behind the reference to “nature”, as well as the structural character of absences in the economic-substantive and political-substantive life. Such a significant contribution could give deeper scope to the controversy over the concept of NbS.
