Abstract :
[en] Since its inception, the concept of neurodiversity has been defined in a number of different ways, which can cause confusion among those hoping to educate themselves about the topic. Learning about neurodiversity can also be challenging because there is a lack of well-curated, appropriately contextualized information on the topic. To address such barriers, we present an annotated reading list that was developed collaboratively by a neurodiverse group of researchers. The nine themes covered in the reading list are: the history of neurodiversity; ways of thinking about neurodiversity; the importance of lived experience; a neurodiversity paradigm for autism science; beyond deficit views of ADHD; expanding the scope of neurodiversity; anti-ableism; the need for robust theory and methods; and integration with open and participatory work. We hope this resource can support readers in understanding some of the key ideas and topics within neurodiversity, and that it can further orient researchers towards more rigorous, destigmatizing, accessible, and inclusive scientific practices.
[fr] Depuis son introduction, le concept de neurodiversité a été défini de différentes manières, pouvant semer la confusion parmi ceux qui souhaitent se renseigner sur le sujet. Comprendre la neurodiversité peut également s’avérer difficile en raison du manque d’informations bien organisées et correctement contextualisées sur le sujet. Pour surmonter ces obstacles, nous présentons une liste de lecture annotée qui a été élaborée en collaboration par un groupe de chercheurs neurodivers. Les neuf thèmes abordés dans la liste de lecture sont : l'histoire de la neurodiversité ; les façons de penser la neurodiversité ; l'importance de l'expérience vécue ; un paradigme de neurodiversité pour la science de l'autisme ; au-delà des visions déficitaires du TDAH ; élargir la portée de la neurodiversité ; l'anti-validisme ; le besoin d'une théorie et de méthodes robustes ; et l'intégration dans un travail ouvert et participatif. Nous espérons que cette ressource pourra aider les lecteurs à comprendre certaines des idées et des sujets clés de la neurodiversité, et qu'elle pourra orienter davantage les chercheurs vers des pratiques scientifiques plus rigoureuses, déstigmatisantes, accessibles et inclusives.
