[en] Colostrogenesis refers to the phase of colostrum synthesis and, immunologically speaking, to the passage of immunoglobulins from the mother's blood into the mammary secretion. Colostrum is classically defined as the product of the first milking after parturition. It contains over a hundred factors that influence the immunity and growth of the newborn.
The quantity and quality of colostrum depend on multiple factors, inherent to the animal (breed, type, age, pathologies...) and/or its environment (season, feed, management of drying off and collection...). In practical terms, it has to be said that the nature of these influencing factors makes them relatively difficult to control in practice. Particular attention should nevertheless be paid to the management of dry-off and the conditions under which it is taken.
