[en] Since the 1970s, there has been a change in French waterfronts, due to
a new handling of the Ports. The major part of port activities has
moved from the centre-‐town to the periphery. This is the birth of
urbanism projects in these former waterfronts. These changes in the
identity of port-‐cities lead to taking care of port heritage to preserve a
past image.
Through the analyses of urbanism projects and the place of port
heritage in them, we can point out two uses of port heritage. We call
these two forms musealisation. The first one is the traditional form of
musealisation: the creation of museums. Indeed, in these waterfront
projects is usually developed a museum that preserve a part of this
port heritage. The second form is a kind of “musealisation in situ”
which preserves signs of the port heritage on the former parts of the
ports.
