Abstract :
[en] Between 1555 and 1620, more than eighty- five volumes containing Italian madrigals were printed in Anvers, consecrating the city as one of the largest printing centers in Europe, in particular for this genre. If at the beginning the madrigal found a place in collections mixing songs and motets, it started being printed for its own sake from 1580, thanks to the publication of antholo- gies and also unpublished volumes of Italian madrigals devoted to the works of individual composers. A phenomenon closely associated with the music of the Sixteenth century is the practice of musical borrowing, which is reliable way of designating the diffusion and emulation strategies participating in the madrigalesque manifestations typical of the Lower Netherlands. Local madrigalists such as Séverin Cornet, Jean de Castro or Jean Desquesnes have had a part – in dif- ferent degrees – to the fortune of the mad- rigal Anchor che col partire by Cipriano de Rore, wherefrom imitation, transformation and quotations from the original material have been amply used in their own works. Therefore, this article proposes to review and analyse borrowings and transforma- tions in de Rore’s madrigal within this largely unexploited corpus (1568-1594) to point out its influence on these composers and the subtle boundaries between imita- tion, invention, emulation and tribute.
