[en] Iron deficiency remains an important problem in pediatric even in developed countries. In children, iron from dietary sources serves not only to replace the physiologic iron loss but also to compensate the needs required by body growth. Iron deficiency results in microcytic anemia but has long term consequences including neuro-cognitive effects. Prevention and screening are essential and in case of deficiency, an adapted treatment needs to be rapidly initiated.
