[en] The architectural heritage of Kinshasa is still characterized by an architecture that seems to have passed, tropical architecture. However, everything indicates that this architecture remains the future of the city. The article attempts to demonstrate that a tropical architectural language has been applied in the construction and composition of different types of buildings starting from the capital. This modern language, the fruit of present knowledge but linked to the past, to the tradition, would be the basis and foundation for the future. Hence the oxymoron: the past that will be. [fr] Le patrimoine architectural de Kinshasa est encore caractérisé par une architecture qui semble être passée, l'architecture tropicale. Pourtant, tout indique que cette architecture reste le futur de la ville. L’article tente de démontrer qu'un langage architectural tropical a été appliqué dans la construction et la composition de différents types de bâtiments ayant pour point de départ la capitale. Ce langage moderne fruit d'un savoir présent mais lié au passé à la tradition serait la base et la fondation pour l'avenir. D’où l’oxymore : le passé qui sera.
