Abstract :
[en] Despite the growing interest in the study of graphic signs – breathings, accents, punctuation marks, critical signs, diacritics, and numbering – that accompany Greek and Latin texts on papyrus, parchment or ostraca, the signs used in the Greek medical papyri have not yet been the subject of a systematic investigation (with rare exceptions, like the Anonymus Londiniensis). Following my previous works on scribal practices in Greek medical writings, I intend, in the present study, to further fill this gap. By listing all the punctuation marks attested in the medical papyri of the Ptolemaic, Roman and Byzantine eras, I endeavor to better understand how the ancients conceived the writing of medical works, and how they read and used them. In doing so, I note the similarities and differences in the form and function of signs according to the writing material used and the time periods considered.
[fr] Malgré l’intérêt croissant porté, depuis trois décennies, à l’étude des signes graphiques – esprits, accents, marques de ponctuation, signes critiques ou diacritiques, numérotation – qui accompagnent les textes grecs et latins écrits sur papyrus, parchemin, ostracon ou tablette, les signes attestés dans les papyrus littéraires grecs de médecine n’ont pas encore fait l’objet, à de rares exceptions près, comme l’Anonyme de Londres, d’une enquête systématique. Poursuivant nos recherches sur les pratiques scribales dans les écrits médicaux grecs, c’est cette lacune que nous nous proposons de combler, en répertoriant l’ensemble des signes graphiques d’organisation du texte, ou marques de ponctuation lato sensu, présents dans les papyrus médicaux grecs des époques ptolémaïque, romaine et byzantine, en vue de mieux comprendre comment les anciens concevaient la mise par écrit d’œuvres médicales, et comment ils lisaient et utilisaient ces dernières. Ce faisant, on relève les ressemblances et les différences dans la forme et dans l’utilisation des signes suivant le support et suivant les périodes envisagées.
