[en] M. Beech gave an interesting historical review of an intriguing question (The Observatory, 133, p. 311, No. 1237 (December 2013)), but it was missing the one reference I would have thought of first.
This is a "correspondence" piece, not a regular article per se, i.e. a "letter to the editor" in the original sense of the term. They are refereed, though; I've received comments on my own such contributions, and refereed those of others.
