[en] The fragility of the Polar microbial communities to the perturbations due to global climatic changes and anthropogenic impacts are described. The need for environmental protection is highlighted and the role of the Protocol of Environmental Protection of the Antarctic Treaty is explained. This could serve as an example for the Polar and Alpine Regions.
