Abstract :
[en] This short chapter introduces readers to the first and major literary work by the Londoner artist-writer David Jones In Parenthesis and to the interlocking approaches of reading and translating. It pays hommage to the trail-blazing figure of Michel Picard and uses the figure of the maze or labyrinth, which was very much part of the soldiers' everyday life in trench warfare, to account for the intricacies of the reading and translating processes.

The book as a whole with its attractive lay-out (and sold as it is at a most affordable price) is a precious tool for scholars and students alike. Most contributions are lively and rooted in actual experience. The political dimension of human action is repeatedly highlighted.
