Abstract :
[en] The conjugal violence is a large-scale social problem. Front-line pProfessionals helping the victims in the front line can experience difficulties in their intervention because of the complexity of the dynamics underlying the conjugal violence and their own representations. The purpose of this research is to study the impact of the professionnal status and of types of violence on the perception of the violence and if there are differences between different types of violence. We investigated two hypotheses through our study: "the firstfront-line workers (psychologists, general practitioners, police men and policewomenpractitioners) have a more sensitive perception of the gravity of the conjugal violence compared with theto common general population" and "the workers’ perception of the gravity of verbal-psychological violence is considered as less seriouser than the perception of physical and sexual violence by the front-line workers". We realized a questionnaire to test our hypotheses. We created 12 stories representing three types of conjugal violence (verbal-psychological, physical and sexual) with estimation of the degree of gravity of every story on a scale from 1 to 5. We administered it to 60 workers (20 psychologists-10 men and 10 women, 20 general practitioners- 10 men and 10 women, 10 policemen and 10 policewomen) and to 20 persons from general population. Wepeople asked them to estimate the degree of gravity of each story on a scale from 1 to 5". The statistical results are were significant and confirmed our two hypotheses. They showed that the firstfront-line workers, and particularly the psychologists, perceived more easily accurately the gravity of the conjugal violence compared with to the common general population. The statistical analyses highlighted also that the gravity of verbal-psychological violence is was the most difficult violence one gravity to identify independently of the type of profession.
