Abstract :
[en] This paper deals with the problem of the origin of the verbal endings in Middle Persian and Parthian and seeks to show a feasible history of their evolution from proto-Iranian onwards. Starting from the assumption that the present indicative of Western Middle Iranian emerged from two old tenses, viz. present and imperfect, my aim is showing how both tenses converged in a single paradigm and how traces of both appear here and there.
