[en] Mourning and psychotrauma are distinct. Mourning is the painful and transient reaction following a loss. Psychotrauma is the psychic injury produced by the exposure to a too stressful event. A cruel loss can induce psychotrauma, and critical event can result in loss and mourning. So, psychotrauma and mourning can coexist and interact. For the individual, it is also a single experience in which mourning and trauma are initially inseparable.
