Abstract :
[en] Localized modes of failure are classically analyzed by a plastic strain localization criterion given by the vanishing values of the determinant of the acoustic tensor. However, some failure modes do not exhibit any localization pattern and a crucial question appears : what is the proper criterion for diffuse failure ? An answer attempt is proposed in this paper in both frameworks of continuum mechanics and discrete mechanics through the second order work criterion.
