Abstract :
[en] In the context of a larger research project dedicated to studying the impact of translated literature in the Argentine literary system during the forties and fifties, this work intends to characterize the foundational moments of the editorial endeavors for which translation constituted a central practice: the publishing houses of Sur and Losada. Founded in 1933 and 1938, respectively, Sur and Losada promoted the first Spanish translations that later were circulated throughout the rest of Latin America. The analysis addresses the texts selected for translation and the textual elements and paratextual indicators of the process of professionalization of the translator. The hypothesis that is sustained is that, although translating foreign literature had already been usual for decades in Buenos Aires, it was in the 1930s when this discursive practice would achieve a status that permitted the explicit identification of the translator as a secondary enunciator of foreign literary texts.
