Abstract :
[es] Este trabajo es una versión modificada en español de otro publicado con anterioridad en francés y forma parte de un proyecto de investigación sobre la literatura traducida en Argentina en el cambio del siglo XIX al siglo XX. Los elementos analizados en el semanario Caras y Caretas conciernen a los criterios de selección de los textos traducidos, las estrategias de traducción, la mención u omisión del traductor, las relaciones de los textos traducidos con otros y con las ilustraciones presentes en la misma publicación, así como con el contexto histórico de aparición, entre otros elementos que permiten reconstruir las funciones estéticas e ideológicas de estas traducciones en el marco de la prensa popular ilustrada. [en] This study is the revised Spanish version of a study originally published in French as part of a research project on translated literature in Argentina at the close of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The weekly Caras y Caretas is analysed concerning the selection criteria of translated texts, strategies of translation, the presence or omission of the translators’ names, the connection between translation and other discourses and pictures in the periodical, and confronted also with a wider historical context, in an attempt to reconstruct the aesthetical and ideological functions of these translations in the illustrated popular press.
