The polymerization was carried out under dry nitrogen in a glass reactor equipped with a three-way stopcock. Toluene was purified by refluxing over CaH2, distilled, and finally bubbled with dry nitrogen for 15 min. MMA was distilled from CaH2 and stored under a nitrogen atmosphere at -20 °C. A typical example is given below. In the flask containing 0.224 g of Pd(OAc)2 and 1.048 g of PPh3 were added 3.4 mL of toluene, 2 mL of MMA, and finally 1 mL of CCl4 in toluene solution. The resulting yellow suspension was placed in a oil bath kept at 70 °C for 24 h. The polymer was recovered by selective precipitation in heptane.
