[en] A talerole analysis of prominent Newfoundland ballad and narrative song records on the theme of death highlighting coherent meaning throughout the different layers of the local song tradition, i.e. an exclusive and constant preoccupation with tragic, sudden, premature and violent death as an inspiration to courage and responsibility rather than despair or resignation.
