Abstract :
[en] This article investigates the collaboration between the French-speaking archivist Octave Delepierre and the Flemish novelist Hendrik Conscience. It uses this specific case to show how the Belgian literary and linguistic system of the period is bilingual, in which French is by far the dominant language and the use of the Flemish/Dutch language is reserved for a limited number of highly specific, mostly cultural purposes.
