Abstract :
[en] This contribution focuses on the place held by the Histoire ecclesiastique in Reformed martyrology. Indeed, the 16th century, the Reformed composed biographical (one could say thanatographical) stories of their fellow believers who died for their faith. Such martyrdom stories were compiled in vast works such as the Histoire ecclesiastique conducted by Théodore de Bèze. Bèze’s project had to deal with the previous 1570 edition of Jean Crespin’s well-kown martyrologe, while adding new materials. Then, two years after the Histoire ecclesiastique, Simon Goulart published his continuation of Crespin’s work; to this end he in turn borrowed materials from the Histoire ecclesiastique. Following a brief presentation on this ongoing study, its issues and methods, the analysis of several sample excerpts will allow to shed light on different dynamics in deaths’ Reformed writing through the interplay of removing or adding selective information.
