This paper deals with the resilience of global economic order with regard to current geopolitical turmoil. With this in mind, it questions the impact of the Ukrainian war on EU engagement toward China. This study case is relevant since 23rd Eu-China summit (April 2022) marked a new low in both actor relationship. Failure to reach a common position on the Ukrainian war undermined any attempt to address economic cooperation. The meeting, defined by Joseph Borell as a deaf ear dialogue, brings systemic rivalry to new dimensions. It empowers assertive voices denouncing China’s lack of compliance to Western norms. This research addresses the way global geopolitical turmoil might put the EU multifaceted approach at risk. It seeks to reach an explanation beyond the renewal of great power politics. Indeed, focusing on contemporary geostrategic requirements, analysts tend to overlook ongoing features of socialization processes. This paper by considering world multiplexity features seeks to rethink the impact of geopolitical crises on global trade realities. Combining desk research, discourse analyses and interviews the paper aims at delivering twofold results. It analyzes the impact of the Ukrainian war on EU-China relations and future challenges. Meanwhile, it questions geopolitical shock weight on world leading economies trade policy.
