Abstract :
[en] Previous studies of nonradial stellar oscillations are reviewed. Problems discussed include those of a homogeneous compressible sphere, a general polytrope of index n, the criterion for convective instability, and necessary and sufficient conditions for dynamic stability toward nonradial perturbations. The case of two or more unstable regions separated by stable zones is considered together with effects of dynamical motions and reduction of the superadiabatic gradient.
