Abstract :
[en] The study of the stability of purely hydrostatic stars that are in thermal balance most of the time is discussed. The general problem of radial pulsations is examined along with the dynamical stability of objects ranging from red supergiants to neutron stars, the vibrational stability of various steady-state stellar models, vibrational stability of evolving models, and studies of secular stability. The general problem of nonradial perturbations is reviewed, and dynamical and vibrational stability with respect to such perturbations is analyzed. The role of progressive waves and associated transfer processes in maintaining stellar oscillations is considered.
