Abstract :
[en] Harmony is generally conceived as pleasing arrangement of parts: harmony of tones in music, colors in painting, tastes in gastronomy. But what happens when music is combined with images or wines with paintings ? How can different sensory inputs – including odors and tastes - be mapped into each other? The book addresses these questions. It starts from the a priori that there exist behind melodies, artistic works, scents, similar forms which can travel, meet, marry. Language shows the way by using identical words to describe feelings linked to different sensory modalities. The study of perceptions, works of artists who combine music and plastic arts, regularities found in different models suggest the existence of an in-between, a poorly studied space where the senses dialogue. The work focuses on concepts such as harmony, variations, expression, style that transcend various forms of expression. Food-wine pairings become food-picture pairings, and variations of Mozart, visual variations.
