[en] The feeding regime of the Spanish sparrow, Passer hispaniolensis Temm., was studied in 1976-1977 in the surroundings of Oran (Algeria). The analysis of 211 crops indicated that the vegetal food constituted at least 98 % of the intake of the free-living birds in the non-breeding period and at least 92 % in the breeding period. For the first period food consisted largely of cereal, weed seeds, and various vegetal parts, which relative importance varied much between successive months. For the second period, cereal seeds constituted the most important part. The animal food consisted mainly of insects.
