Abstract :
[en] Pausanias’ ten books are a precious, and often irreplaceable, source for the study of Greek religion. In many aspects Pausanias is our sole informant; this explains why we find references to his text in so many publications that use it in a split way. The present work aims at taking Pausanias’ Periegesis as a whole in order to understand his own project and to rightly evaluate the reliability of his text as a source on three topics: the Greek sacrificial rituals, the Greek pantheon, and the mystery cults.
