[less ▲]

The authors examine the possible links between a sound mobilisation in some urban places and the promotion of powers that are associated with these places (Palace, Town Hall, Cathedral…). They test their hypothesis in the frame of Liege where different powers live together – and often are faced: they try then to understand if the deliberate invitation of the music, the sound and the noise, integrated in a large spectacular system tied to specific places, contributes to assert the vitality of one or the other power. The historian and the musicologist want to know if the “noise” must to be foreseen as a tool in the hands of these authorities: the Bavarian prince-bishop who defends his sovereign interests, the Cathedral Chapter that wants to demonstrate his power or the local Magistrate increasingly opposed to his prince.
