The paper reports the discovery of a new gravitational lens candidate: the high redshift (z = 3.803) and highly luminous (V = 17.5, M[SUB]V[/SUB] = -30.3) quasar Q 1208 + 1011. As derived from the analysis of direct CCD frames taken with the ESO/MPI 2.2 m telescope, this multiple quasar consists of two pointlike images, separated by 0.45 arcsec and characterized by a brightness ratio of 3.5, in red light. Existing spectroscopic data support the gravitational lens interpretation for this system but cannot exclude the hypothesis of a binary quasar. In the former case, the spectrum suggests that, if the metallic absorption line system reported by Steidel (1990) at a redshift z = 2.9157 is associated with the deflector, the mass of the lens should be of the order of M = 7.8 x 10 exp 11 solar masses. Evaluation of a recent HST PC frame obtained for Q 1208 + 1011 within the snapshot survey for gravitational lenses confirms the above results. [less ▲]

A sero-epidemiological survey was organized among veterinarians working in Southern Belgium to estimate the seroprevalence of Q fever and the risk factors associated with exposure. A total of 108 veterinarians took part to this cross-sectional study, with a majority practicing with livestock animals. The overall seroprevalence was 45.4%, but it increased to 58.3% among veterinarians having contact with livestock. Three main serological profiles were detected (relatively recent, past and potentially chronic infections). The contact with manure during the prior month was the risk factor associated with seropositivity after multivariate logistic regression analysis. Classification and regression tree analysis identified the age as the most predictive variable to exclude potentially chronic infection in apparently healthy seropositive veterinarians. In conclusion, livestock veterinarians practicing in Southern Belgium are highly exposed to Q fever, a neglected zoonosis for which serological and medical examinations should be envisaged in at risk groups. © 2016 Blackwell Verlag GmbH [less ▲]

The complex balance between innovation and conservation regarding animal genetic resources makes it difficult to find mutually accepted improvement pathways between breeders, government agencies, and research and education institutions. This study maps stakeholder viewpoints on cattle genetic improvement in Niger using the Q method. Fifty-three statements derived from expert opinions and focus group interviews were ranked by 22 respondents along a seven-grade scale expressing their degree of approval. The Q method reveals a limited consensus on development goals, overall strategy, and the present context of operation. Beyond this consensus, three discourses are identified that express distinct attitudes regarding the balance between conservation and progress, leading to distinct strategies. The first discourse fits with a modernist vision and government strategies established in the 2000s based on exotic crossbreeding and improved purebred Azawak. The second discourse lines up with the previous livestock development strategy of Niger (before 2000) based on indigenous breeds. The third discourse represents a conservationist vision, with minor importance in the present sampling. Tentative observations are proposed on the consequences of this divide in opinions on livestock policies in Niger, including extension. The Q method appears effective in identifying the concerns of stakeholders on complex agricultural innovation topics. As a sensing tool to follow-up policy implementation in similarly complex agricultural topics, the Q method may inform adaptive extension and education strategies. © Author(s) 2018. General Practice/Family Medicine is a complex and poorly understood discipline. The textbooks that treat all differ by their table of contents. There is no specific indexing system . The author presents an authority list of 184 concepts identified during exchanges between family physicians and their colleagues in international General Practice/Family Medicine congress. This list is identified by the letter Q. The Q-codes are complementary to the International Classification of Primary Care (ICPC) which does not use the letter Q. The Q-184 codes are available in 7 languages. The detailed content, terminology, bibliographic citations, PubMed links, links to lay terminologies have been published in the online terminological system of the University of Rouen (Medical Informatics Laboratory - Prof. S.Darmoni) on www.hetop.eu website. Aim Coding abstracts of communications of GPs during congress allows more efficient exchange of information through a specific indexing process. Coding with Core Content Classification in General Practice/Family Medicine (3CGP/FM), an association of ICPC and of a new tool called Q-Codes means identifying the main concepts the writer is willing to share in his/her contribution. This is called ‘text classification’ or ‘topic list building’ in computer sciences and ‘qualitative data analysis’ in cognitive sciences. The GP is dealing with issues concerning the patient and with issues concerning the management of the job. Symptoms, diagnosis and process are up to what we will call clinical activities. General management as well as ethical or quality related issues are up to what we will call non-clinical or managerial activities. Clinical activities will be identified in the abstracts by the use of the International Classification of Primary Care second edition, electronic, version 5 (ICPC-2 e ver5). Managerial activities will be identified in the abstracts by the use of the Q-Codes, version 2.1, 2015 which we are explaining now in detail. Method The European cross-lingual portal of health terminologies for indexing and searching Web resources (www.hetop.eu) is using the OWL 2 Web Ontology Language, relying for instance to Bioportal and connected to the world of the Internet of data. We have developed the terminological content of 183 items called Q-codes using a graphic Interface, filling the knowledge base with relevant information about the concept studied, linking them to professional terminologies like MeSH, or to lay ones like Babelnet and DBpedia, if any, and relying them to top bibliographic free full text citations of the domain. Results 183 Q-Codes have been designed and 177 extensive terminological records are available online, for now for beta testers. The whole process is described on http://docpatient.net/3CGP. The session is devoted to the launch of an online knowledge database specific to GP / FM. This work is the result of a two years’ work of a cooperative project between participants from 12 countries and 8 languages. People are now used to the International classification of Primary Care (ICPC-2) which addresses the clinical issues in GP/FM , ie Symptoms, Process and Diagnosis. We have work on non-clinical issues i.e. all themes addressed by GPs during congresses which concern organizational, ethical, structure, teaching or patient related issues not encompassed by ICPC-2. The letter Q was used to name Q-Codes because this letter wasn’t yet used in ICPC-2. Q-codes are a classification of non-clinical items in General Practice / Family Medicine (GP/FM). Small inner working angle coronagraphs are essential to benefit from the full potential of large and future extremely large ground-based telescopes, especially in the context of the detection and characterization of exoplanets. Among existing solutions, the vortex coronagraph stands as one of the most effective and promising solutions. However, for focal-plane coronagraph, a small inner working angle comes necessarily at the cost of a high sensitivity to pointing errors. This is the reason why a pointing control system is imperative to stabilize the star on the vortex center against pointing drifts due to mechanical flexures, that generally occur during observation due for instance to temperature and/or gravity variations. We have therefore developed a technique called QACITS[SUP]1[/SUP] (Quadrant Analysis of Coronagraphic Images for Tip-tilt Sensing), which is based on the analysis of the coronagraphic image shape to infer the amount of pointing error. It has been shown that the flux gradient in the image is directly related to the amount of tip-tilt affecting the beam. The main advantage of this technique is that it does not require any additional setup and can thus be easily implemented on all current facilities equipped with a vortex phase mask. In this paper, we focus on the implementation of the QACITS sensor at Keck/NIRC2, where an L-band AGPM has been recently commissioned (June and October 2015), successfully validating the QACITS estimator in the case of a centrally obstructed pupil. The algorithm has been designed to be easily handled by any user observing in vortex mode, which is available for science in shared risk mode since 2016B. [less ▲]

Recent progress in applying machine learning for jet physics has been built upon an analogy between calorimeters and images. In this work, we present a novel class of recursive neural networks built instead upon an analogy between QCD and natural languages. In the analogy, four-momenta are like words and the clustering history of sequential recombination jet algorithms is like the parsing of a sentence. Our approach works directly with the four-momenta of a variable-length set of particles, and the jet-based tree structure varies on an event-by-event basis. Our experiments highlight the flexibility of our method for building task-specific jet embeddings and show that recursive architectures are significantly more accurate and data efficient than previous image-based networks. We extend the analogy from individual jets (sentences) to full events (paragraphs), and show for the first time an event-level classifier operating on all the stable particles produced in an LHC event.
