Crises and Conflicts in the Middle East : What Impacts on Relations between Turkey and Iran? This article analyzes the security challenges of conflicts in the Middle East and their impact on Iranian-Turkish relations, which are marked by differences over the issue of regional security based on divergent perceptions of national security, especially since the Syrian conflict. This study shows that shifting power relationships in the Middle East have created new security issues with political, military, economic and societal ramifications. On the one hand, the Middle East is facing a new form of struggle between regional powers—particularly Saudi Arabia, Iran and Turkey—and on the other, it is confronted with the activities of non-state actors involved in the war in Syria and Iraq. This new balance of power has created a security dilemma as the crises and conflicts in Iraq, Syria, and Yemen provoke a situation of chaos. [less ▲]

La bipolarisation de la société tunisienne, après la révolution, entre les "modernistes" et les "islamistes" a débouché sur une crise politique. La sortie de crise passe par la formation d'un "compromis historique" entre les deux camps pour éviter de basculer dans la violence. [less ▲]

The presentation hinges on a double approach: to provide a brief overview of the notion of crisis in geographic works (mainly French-speaking) and then show how geography classes help to understand economic crises through two particularly interesting approaches: the mapping of certain crisis indicators and the analysis of changes in productive systems. While geographers have generally favoured global dynamics and changes rather than crises, which are merely breaking points or bifurcation points, their work unequivocally allows us to take into account the spatial aspects of crises and their impacts, either thanks to mapping, or by studying the relations between economy, societies and land. Hence, geography classes are indeed complementary to economics classes. [less ▲]

The ability to address the CRISPR-Cas9 nuclease complex to any target DNA using customizable single-guide RNAs has now permitted genome engineering in many species. Here, we report its first successful use in a nonvascular plant, the moss Physcomitrella patens. Single-guide RNAs (sgRNAs) were designed to target an endogenous reporter gene, PpAPT, whose inactivation confers resistance to 2-fluoroadenine. Transformation of moss protoplasts with these sgRNAs and the Cas9 coding sequence from Streptococcus pyogenes triggered mutagenesis at the PpAPT target in about 2% of the regenerated plants. Mainly, deletions were observed, most of them resulting from alternative end-joining (alt-EJ)-driven repair. We further demonstrate that, in the presence of a donor DNA sharing sequence homology with the PpAPT gene, most transgene integration events occur by homology-driven repair (HDR) at the target locus but also that Cas9- induced double-strand breaks are repaired with almost equal frequencies by mutagenic illegitimate recombination. Finally, we establish that a significant fraction of HDR-mediated gene targeting events (30%) is still possible in the absence of PpRAD51 protein, indicating that CRISPR-induced HDR is only partially mediated by the classical homologous recombination pathway.
