Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is a high quality forage which has been used worldwide. The superiority of alfalfa lies in its high yield, high protein content and high digestibility. The aim of this study was to develop a simple, fast and non-destructive method, named Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) to determinate alfalfa quality. To realize this study, alfalfa samples were obtained from Mănăştur Experimental Station – Farm Cojocna in 2008–2009, in one experiment carried out using randomization blocks design with two experimental factors (mineral fertilization and period of harvest). Alfalfa quality was first determinated on 48 samples by classical analyses: crude protein CP (AOAC, 1990), crude fiber CF (Fiber Cap, FOSS, DK) and in vitro organic matter digestibility OMDrt (DeBoever, 1986). Then the samples were scanned by NIRS. Calibration models were performed by PerkinElmer Spectrum Quant + 4.21 program (USA) on the 48 samples determinated by classical analysis. The results showed fully confirmed by acceptable coefficients of determination and standard error of cross-validation (R2=0.96 for CP, 0.94 for CF, 0.98 for OMDrt and SECV=0.77 for CP, 1.35 for CF, 1.13 for OMDrt). Successful results for prediction of other 176 alfalfa samples were then obtained using these calibration models: SEP=0.869 for CP, 1.058 for CF, 1.058 for OMDrt). The highest CP and OMDrt values of alfalfa were obtained in bud stage (22.0% and 66.0% respectively). While for CF, the highest content was registered in the seed formation stage (46.0%). The NIRS technique offers us the possibility to determinate rapidly and easily Romanian alfalfa important parameters, but the system could also be used for the determination of other constituents. We discuss the compatibility between the quark-shell picture and the meson-nucleon scattering picture in large $N_c$ QCD for mixed symmetric $\ell$ = 1 states previously analyzed by using a simple Hamiltonian including operators up to order $\mathcal{O}(N^0_c)$ defined in the standard ground state symmetric core + excited quark procedure. Here we introduce a Hamiltonian of order $\mathcal{O}(N^0_c)$ defined in a new approach where the separation of the system into two parts is not required. Three degenerate sets of states (towers) with the same quantum numbers as in the scattering picture and in the standard procedure are obtained. Thus the compatibility is equally achieved. The eigenvalues of the presently chosen Hamiltonian also have simple analytic expressions, depending linearly on the three dynamical coefficients entering the Hamiltonian. This reinforces the validity of the new approach which had already successfully described excited negative parity baryons in a large energy range. [less ▲]

Background Despite recent improvements in prevention, medical treatment [1]and endovascular aortic repair , invasive surgery associated with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) remains the best option of treatment for some patients. The aim of this study is to make a review of the specific CPB protocols associated with these invasive surgical approaches, based on our clinical experience and according to the recent literature. Up to now, these protocols are not supported by evidence based in medicine (EBM) [2] or in perfusion (EBP). Discrepancies can be observed regarding target temperature , selective cerebral protection , CPB circuit concept and arterial cannulation sites . Variables guidelines are suggested concerning regional flow , transfusion requirements [3], coagulation monitoring blood gas management[4] as for cerebral and CPB monitoring tools. Conclusions In the absence of EBM and EBP in the aortic surgery field, the short and long terms clinical outcomes of the patients elected to invasive surgery for aortic diseases must guide and substantiate our choices of techniques and of CPB protocols. Steel is currently the most common material used in the construction of offshore wind turbines. With towers reaching new heights of over 100 m, and with production assembly and transportations constraints being more and more heavier, it became obvious that for an offshore wind turbine to become cost effective, the total amount of steel used needed to be minimal. The main objective of EOL-OS is to provide a competitive analysis tool and to perform structural optimizations of the tower of a fixed offshore and onshore wind turbine, in order to obtain either the least cost or the least weight. Thru the use of EOL-OS a wind turbine designer or steel manufacturer can determine what is the best solution in terms of cost or weight, in order yield the maximum benefit from a wind turbine. This work presents a method for quantitative comparison of numerical results to experimental measurements. It is based on the concept of Proper Orthogonal Decomposition. This technique is selected in order to compare the unsteady aerodynamic flows around static and oscillating bodies obtained from wind tunnel testing and numerical simulations. Two dimensional Time-resolved Particle Image Velocimetry measurements are carried out on the upper surface a 4:1 rectangular cylinder. Simulations are performed using unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes and an unsteady Discrete Vortex Method. It is demonstrated that the proposed technique is a good preliminary step for comparing the main characteristics of unsteady aerodynamic data. [less ▲]
