Midface fractures are among the most prevalent site of facial fractures. Midface tends to fracture along three planes of weakness described in the early 1900s by René Le Fort. This classification is still highly relevant, both biomechanically and clinically. After a brief historical introduction, we will expose by means of illustrative CT-scan cases the main features of this classification. Lastly, we will introduce a few remarks about its limitations. Management of such fractures and associated lesions not solely involves radiologists and maxillofacial surgeons but also intensive care and emergency physicians, ear-nose and throat specialists or neurosurgeons. The awareness and understanding of this classification by all physicians thus seems relevant. [less ▲]
